James Taylor Kicks Off His Tour with a Memorable Night at Bethel Woods
It looked like Mother Nature might have other plans for opening night, as dark clouds threatened rain over Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Fortunately, the storm passed by, leaving behind a beautiful evening for a packed crowd eager to see legendary singer/songwriter James Taylor kick off his summer tour.
The excitement was evident from the moment Taylor took the stage, as the audience erupted with applause and cheers. Performing for nearly two hours, Taylor delivered a set filled with fan favorites, heartfelt stories, and the warmth that has made him one of music’s most beloved artists for decades.
While I didn’t know many of the songs in the setlist, I was excited to hear “Mexico” and his cover of Marvin Gaye’s classic “How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You,” which had the crowd singing along.
One of the most memorable moments of the night came when James spoke openly about overcoming addiction many years ago and the songs he wrote during that time.
Throughout the evening, Taylor shared his appreciation for Bethel Woods, telling the crowd how much he enjoys returning to the venue and noting that the fans here never disappoint. That connection between artist and audience was clear all night long.
As the show came to a close, the crowd wasn’t ready to say goodbye. The crowd roared during the encore so loud that Taylor rewarded fans with one additional song, creating the perfect ending to an unforgettable night.
More than anything, the concert showcased why James Taylor has remained such a beloved performer for generations. You can tell he truly loves his fans and is genuinely thankful for their support. It was a fitting start to his tour and a wonderful night at Bethel Woods.
